Polenta

So the other day we came to the realization that if we found out we were having a baby girl, we could no longer refer to the baby as "Stinklebert" (mostly this was at my insistence as well as the protest of grandmothers who did not entirely approved of the placeholder name to begin with). Brady offered up the option of “Stinklebertha.” We were making polenta for dinner and agreed on that as the new placeholder name if we found out we were having a girl. Well, we are happy to announce that “Polenta” is on her way (don’t worry, we do have some real, grandmother-approved names in mind, but until we decide, she’s Polenta). The technician said he was sure. We could even tell at certain points during the ultrasound before he told us. We are very excited to meet her in November! (So far the due date is still set for the 9th)

Profile

Here's the best profile shot. We actully didn't get any pictures printed out, but a DVD of the whole thing. So I tried to get some good screen shots to include.

thumb2We have a thumbsucker. The technician said sometimes it just looks like babies are sucking their thumbs in the pictures, but he said she was really going at it. When we watch parts of the DVD, we can actually see the sucking motion. We can also see lots of wiggles. She does not like to hold still to get her picture taken. The technician had to come back for several shots of her face because she was squirming so much.

3D2This is my favorite one. We didn't expect anything like this at all, but right at the end the technician said he wanted to try something. He got out a different attachment for the ultrasound and took a few shots. They just looked like blobs at first, and then he started to pull away layers of the picture and we could see her little face. She was facing the placenta, so he couldn't get a shot from the front, but this was pretty great.

We are going to see if we can get any of the video clipped (don't worry, we wouldn't post 30 min. of ultrasound). So if we can, we'll put a good 20-30 sec. segment of thumb-sucking for you all.

  2. yayyyy!!! There's nothing like this, nothing at all.

I'm always so very surprised to see, after birth, how much my babies really do resemble their ultrasound pictures.

  3. Yay for ultrasounds! It's always exciting to find out what flavor you have, plus I always felt relieved once they took a look and could tell us the baby looked healthy. Congratulations again on having little Polenta.

  5. I love her already. I'm so happy for your little family. Babies really are amazing. I am still suffering from sleep deprivation. I smell like spit-up most of the time. I haven't been to a movie theater in over a year. Still, it's worth every bit. Congratulations again!

  7. A girl!!! That is so fun. I know so many friends/family that are pregnant now with girls (okay, only 5, but that seems like a lot), and then I only know one other with a boy besides me. Anyway, I am excited for you. You got some great shots from the ultrasound. We did not have the DVD option, just a sheet of print outs. But, I am still happy with that.

  8. Actually, I lied, I also have two old roommates both pregnant with girls, so that makes the total 7 now. I am almost feeling left out. Hmmm... Tex will just have lots of lady friends I guess.

  9. What's wrong with Stinklebertha?! Did you know that Wendy's parents told the grandparents that they were naming her Patience Mahidible just to get them mad? They made an announcement and everything and sent it to Utah from Oregon and it was the first the grandparents had even heard of the pregnancy. You know, your distance in Tennessee will give you guys some real power over the naysayers. Go Polenta Puteneska Wiggins.

  10. So what's the pronunciation on "Mahidible"?

  11. Congratulations. I know we have all been excited, but seeing her face and getting to know her is so cool. You guys are in for the most amazing experience. I am afraid everyone is forgetting the Tennessee aspect of this all. Perhaps an nice name like Julip, Savannah, or Jolene. (I actually know a Jolen, very nice person and name).
