Halloween Humbug

PICT0264
This is a picture of our entry in the ward pumpkin-carving contest a few years ago. We didn't win. I had hoped that Dilbert would at least get some kind of honorable mention.

This is a picture of Brady's gourmet black bean chili that we entered into the chili cook-off the next year. We didn't win. I thought grinding your own chili powder warranted some kind of honorable mention.

This is a picture of the next year when we actually went all out and dressed up for the costume contest (those are our good friends Sean and Alys with us). We didn't win. (I'm guessing if we had had a toddler to dress up as Scooby-Doo, we would have gotten an honorable mention.)

It's not so much that I'm bitter about our Halloween investment/loss ratio. Just feeling a bit worn out to put forth the effort this year. I had planned on dressing up (I was going to be a magic-8 ball---I refuse to do the whole pregnant belly jack-o-lantern thing). But we opted out of the Halloween party this year. Instead, I am hiding out in the dark pretending I'm not home so I don't have to get up over and over to answer the door to trick-or-treaters---is that too mean? I'm waiting for Brady to get back from the football game (he's working, not abandoning his pregnant wife to play) so we can drink hot chocolate, eat fresh biscotti (I'm a little candied out, sadly) and watch a good Hitchcock movie. I may be setting myself up for worse Halloween karma in years to come.

Come to think of it, given my current profile, Alfred Hitchcock might have been a good costume idea this year . . .

  1. Wow. I think I have a new favorite picture of you guys. Nice.

I bought a lamp shade and wore it to the ward party this year. I got a few laughs. Church parties are a tough crowd. Better luck in years to come.

  2. I have to say, I get the biggest kick out of your posts, Annalisa. I'm a friend of Brady's from college. I think you and I met one time, but I think you know my old roommate, Wendy Stubbs. Anyway, I occasionally read your blog to see what Brady is up to. I really enjoy reading your posts because, not only do you crack me up, but you also write well. In fact, your post about your GPS was so entertaining that I had to have my husband read it.
Good luck with the pregnancy. I look forward to your many adventures with Baby Wiggins.

  3. I can't blame you for hiding out from the tirck-or-treaters. I'd have done the same thing. Love the pictures. Looks like you have fun memories of Halloweens gone by even if you didn't get due credit for your creativity and talent.
